In Kerala traditional congee (kanji - as we call it) is made with brown parboiled rice, and it was my nightmare(now I know it is the healthy type of rice!!. Wish I had known this recipe when I was a kid.Sebastianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00991424569358575756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5261777578563960594.post-15739530798207038852009-07-24T11:12:44.432-07:002009-07-24T11:12:44.432-07:00Hello Ninette! I'm not surprised that Portugal would have a similiar dish, as this is basically a chicken rice soup that's cooked to the consistency of a loose porridge. I found this on wikipedia for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congee. Arroz caldo means "hot rice" in Spanish and apparently Chinese restaurants in the Philippines referred to the congee for the Spanish in a language they could pronounce.Ninettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01579578878877635078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5261777578563960594.post-18689204509871746012009-07-13T14:16:41.087-07:002009-07-13T14:16:41.087-07:00Hi. I am a worshipper at foodgawker, and so every so often i get a surprise.
Do you know what's the origin of that dish?
It's because it sounds rather familiar..:) and i'm on the other side of the planet too!!!
Arroz caldo willl roughly translate directly from portuguese to english in rice(arroz) and caldo (stock, as in fish stock)...
And we also have several of those too, bu main ingredients will be fish, seafood, or poultry, and the seasonings will be about garlic, tomato, parsley, celery, sea salt, black/white pepper, bay leaves, bell peppers, and everything else you might recall putting in :) will try a foreign version for sure! thanks for sharing!Tiagonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5261777578563960594.post-87454252884282514992009-07-13T07:14:12.569-07:002009-07-13T07:14:12.569-07:00It's so simple but so good.
